Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition COVID-19 Representation
We are working with the Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition to take on individual cases and try to get the most vulnerable people released through habeas and/or other legal mechanisms. Our partnership with the Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition started months ago, when the inhumane conditions of Parchman prison were exposed. Since we have received over two dozen requests for legal representation. A majority of these requests are from people with significant underlying health conditions. COVID-19 has made the situation even more urgent and today we are reaching out to see if you can provide support.
Specifically we are asking for lawyers who:
- Are licensed to practice law (there are local lawyers who are willing to serve as co-counsel on these cases so you do not have to be barred in Mississippi);
- You have some experience with post-conviction relief or prison conditions;
- You can commit to taking on an individual client for at least the next few months (should the case last that long).
If you are able to support please fill out this form as soon as possible. If you are not a barred lawyer but you have some capacity to conduct research please let us know. We are so grateful for you and the work that each of you are doing to fight for our people in this time of crisis.
